Free Desktop Calendar Software

It isn’t an ordinary free desktop calendar software. It is not a simple calendar with a boring look that you cannot change the display. The ability to change the skin or theme and the availability of numerous calendar themes that can be downloaded at the developer’s site will make you sure that you will get a beautiful calendar display.

Aside from the ability to change the theme, the calendar position can also be freely moved across the desktop. Optionally, the position can be locked as well once you find a perfect view. The transparency effect it has enables you to make the calendar as if it is a part of every wallpaper you display on the desktop. It is also useful if you prefer to keep displaying the calendar always on top instead of just on the desktop.

Should you have any important event or task, you can add it to the calendar. The date of the event or task is marked by a different color that depends on the skin you use. The ability to set the alarm allows you to get notified by sound as well.

Calendar theme changer, the availability of many skins, organizer, highly customizable… In conclusion, Rainlendar Lite is an impressive desktop calendar free software. If you like it so much, you might be interested in upgrading to the pro version. It doesn’t only work under Windows, but also Linux and Mac OS X.

Increase or Decrease Thumbnail Size and Quality in Windows Explorer

I have told you about Thumbnail Control that lets you to change the thumbnail size and quality in Windows explorer previously, now here you come another one.

It’s called ThumbTweak. The advantage of this freeware over Thumbnail Control is that you can preview how big or small the thumbnail will be. Instead of using slide bars, simply enter the desired size and quality value and the size of the thumbnail in the preview window will change accordingly. Or, you can just pick one of the provided preset values.

Unfortunately, since the preview doesn’t include any image but a rectangular box, you can only preview how big or small the size will be. There is no way to preview the result of the quality change. The only thing you can do to see how good the quality of the thumbnails are is by hitting the “apply” button and restart your Windows explorer.

The disadvantage of ThumbTweak is, compared to Thumbnail Control, it has to be installed.

Move Taskbar Button Position in Windows XP, Vista, Server 2003

Windows has its own rule in managing the taskbar buttons position and, unfortunately, the position cannot be changed unless you use an additional tool like Taskix. Taskix itself is a freeware that enables you to move taskbar position into any order you want easily.

After you activate the program, you can simply drag and drop any taskbar button you want to move. You will still be able to reorder the position of each button within a group as well if the “group similar taskbar buttons” option is set.

If you often need to move taskbar button position, you might want to consider to start it automatically at Windows start-up. This way you won’t have to start it manually each time you need it.

Taskix doesn’t need to be installed.
