Check Broken Audio & Video Codec with Codec Detective
A codec is neccessary to play a certain video or audio file format. Any video or audio file requires a proper codec. If someday you find that you’re unable to play a certain video, the cause could be the required codec isn’t installed yet in your computer or the codec has been installed but it is broken.
The question is how to find out the installed codecs within a computer and how to check if there is any of the codecs broken. Windows doesn’t provide you an easy way to do both. That’s why Sherlock the Codec Detective was created.
Sherlock the Codec Detective is small, free and does its job fast. After download, you’ll just need to extract it and launch the executable file. All of the installed audio and video codecs are automatically scanned once you launch the application. The broken codecs, if any, will be highlighted in red color.
