The close button is indeed available for each Firefox tab that you only need to click it once to close the tab. If you think it isn’t fast enough, then the combination of Ctrl + W as the keyboard shortcut to close tab can be used instead. But some users think these two aren’t enough yet, so a Firefox extension called Close Tab by Double Click is created.
Close Tab by Double Click is simply designed so that a Firefox user can close a single Firefox tab by double-clicking it. No other options available.
