Open PSD in Paint.Net with Paint.NET PSD Plugin
You can use Paint.Net to open PSD with an additional of a plugin, Paint.NET PSD Plugin. This is useful for some situation like when you want to simply open PSD and convert it to another image format. For such a simple purpose, why would you load a big software like Adobe Photoshop when you can open it faster with Paint.Net?
Paint.NET PSD Plugin doesn’t have everything that you need to edit a PSD file due to the lack of detailed information about PSD format, but it is sufficient for a viewing and conversion purpose.
Here you are the features you can get from this plugin:
- Layers
- Masks (loading only)
- RAW or RLE compressed files (loading only)
- The following color modes are supported for loading an image
- Gray scale
- Indexed
- 32 Bit-RGBA
- CMYK (lossy conversation)
- Multichannel CMY (lossy conversation)
- Duotone (as gray scale)
- Lab (lossy conversation)
- For saving an image, only 32-Bit RGBA is supported
It’s definitely not an alternative to Adobe Photoshop when you want to perform deep editing to some PSD files, but it’s nice to have Paint.Net, one of the popular free photo editing, to be able to open and convert PSD file.
