Uninstall Avira Antivir Completely
Avira Antivir is no doubt one of the top antivirus software that exist these days. But, apparently this antivirus also has the same uninstallation problem that Kaspersky, NOD32, Norton and AVG antivirus suffer from. You cannot expect to be able to completely uninstall Antivir simply using the Add/Remove program, the built-in uninstaller tool that Windows provides. If you find that you cannot uninstall Avira Antivir completely, then one of these free tools should be able to help you no matter which version you’re using.
Avira Antivir has provided a specific Avira uninstaller tool for Avira Antivir version 6. If you have this version installed and want it to be completely removed, then what you need is this Avira uninstallation package for Windows 98, 98 SE and Me or uninstallation package for Windows NT, 2000 and XP. The Avira AntiVir Registry Cleaner tool will help you cleaning up all the registry entries left by the program after the uninstallation. Both these uninstaller and cleaner can be downloaded for free.
The above Antivir uninstaller and cleaner are specifically assigned to do clean uninstallation for Avira Antivir version 6. There is even a pdf manual page on how to do a clean uninstallation for this version. But, what about the next versions? How to completely uninstall other Avira Antivir versions?
Since there is no specific uninstaller for the other Avira Antivir versions, you can use a third-party uninstaller instead like Revo Uninstaller. This free uninstaller will help you to completely uninstall Avira Antivir installed within your computer. To make sure that the files that Avira Antivir created during the installation are completely cleaned up, you can use a specific registry cleaner like Wise Registry Cleaner or CCleaner.

After “removing” Avira, my windows “Security Centre” (in Control Panel) reported that it was still installed and working – even after a reboot. I installed Avira again but then my “Security Center” reported that more than one antivirus package was running – so I re-installed XP, even reformatted the hard disk, then had no problems with installing Avira version 9 – just remember to back up your data !!

I have the FREE Avira Anti Virus and I have tried several uninstallers and NONE of them are completely removing this. I now have a good antivirus provided by mt ISP and this is creating cxonflicts galore. I would like to know what to do besides reformatting my pc? I would not recommend this antivirus to anyone because of these issues. We should be able to remove this without all this bullshit!

Im trying to uninstall Avira Antivir, but somehow I cant seem to do so. I have Windows XP and since Im planning to switch over to Panda Security instead, in order to install that antivirus pro, you need to uninstall other anitvirus programs, in this case, Avira. Ive try using the Revo Uninstaller, but every time I try to do so, this msg would pop up, “Setup could not determine the feature control file or was not able to read it correctly. [Errorcode:7]” And then I cant do anything else. =/

Links are no longer working… it would be nice to get Avira’s tools again, but in the meanwhile, feel free to try AppRemover.com (great!) in addition to the fine RevoUninstaller.
Good luck to all who seek to remove (and maybe even install the newest) Avira.
